Your replies are boring. Sorry.
Let's fix that, because a reply has exactly one job now and it's not impressions.
the one job
From X's open-source code: a comment you leave under someone else's post is only eligible for people who follow that account, and it's filtered out of every non-follower's feed before scoring. The reply itself does not travel.
What travels is the person. They read your reply, click your profile, follow you. Now you're mutuals and every original you post is 4Γ heavier in their feed.
So a reply that converts is one that makes someone want to know who wrote it. That's the whole brief.
the 3 parts
Every reply that converts does these 3 things, in this order:
- validate the post β "i get why this hits. felt the same whenβ¦"
- make yourself relatable β "but here's how it went for me: β¦"
- leave an open question β "anyone do xyz differently?"
This pulls in the original poster and everyone else scrolling the comments. They're drawn into your story. It reads like a conversation, not a clap from the sidelines.
examples, meh vs magnetic
Post: "i quit my job with $2k in the bank. scary but best decision i ever made."
meh: "huge respect. congrats πππ"
magnetic:
Shared story + emotion + a question = memorable.
Post: "nobody's coming to save you."
meh: "facts π―"
magnetic:
Post: "building is lonely."
meh: "yeah. keep going ππ½"
magnetic:
Gratitude over relatability. It stays with them.
the 3 rules that keep it from sounding fake
- add something. Insight, emotion, humor, a new angle. Even a meme counts. "LFG" makes you ignorable
- stay on their topic. Match the tone and subject of the original. "why am i shadowbanned?" under a post about AI turns off the poster and their audience
- invite the next line. A quick question at the end, or a line someone can pick up and run with
pro tips
πΉ be yourself, be thoughtful, be funny if you can πΈ attach a relevant image or video when it helps πΉ don't reply too fast, and don't reply to the same 10 accounts every day πΈ never quote your own posts for impressions. people hate that πΉ if your replies get no replies back, change who you reply to, not how hard you try
starter lines you can steal
- "love this. what would you do if it went the opposite way though?"
- "tried this for 2 weeks and the part that surprised me was ___. did you hit that too?"
- "counterpoint, and it might be wrong: ___. where does that break for you?"
- "this is the version of this advice everyone should read first. the one thing to add: ___"
Edit them until they sound like you. A template you didn't rewrite reads like a template.
try this today
Scroll X (like you weren't going to anyway π). Find one post you agree with. Reply with all 3 parts. Then find the best comment under that post and reply to that person too.
Do it for 2 weeks. Track which replies got a reply back, and who followed you. That list is your next 10 mutuals π§‘
