you can switch niches without starting over

Lots of creators stay stuck in a niche they've outgrown because they think they need to delete everything and start over.

No. You can switch from crypto to personal branding to AI workflows to web design on one account, without deleting a single post or reply. Here's how, and why the code says you can.

the algo doesn't care about your past. it cares about your patterns

People treat a niche change like an identity crisis. Delete every old post. Scrub replies. Some nuke the whole account and start at zero.

All because they think the algo won't let them evolve.

From X's open-source ranking code: out-of-network discovery works off which engagement clusters you sit in (SimClusters) and how similar your posts are to what a viewer engages with (embeddings). Your "niche" in the model is the pattern of your recent posts and interactions. Not your oldest posts. Not your follower list. Not what you were into in 2023.

Patterns can be rewritten. You don't need a clean slate. You need new signals.

the 14-day niche change

  1. post 1 to 2 times a day about the new niche. Clean, consistent, unmistakable signals. Don't overthink the content, put it out
  2. reply to people inside the new niche every day. This is the real key. Your replies place you in new conversations → new clusters → a new audience that sees your new posts
  3. ignore your old content. Don't delete. Your past is your credibility, and erasing it is a mistake
  4. do it for 14 days straight. Not "when inspired." The model needs repetition to reclassify you

It won't flip in 2 days. Somewhere in week 2 or 3 the model starts treating you like you belong there. It might still associate you with the old niche for a while. It catches up.

one thing from the code most people miss

There's a second diversity pass after scoring (VMRanker) that penalizes posts that are too similar in substance to each other in one feed pull, even from different authors. So during your switch, don't post the same angle 3 times in a row. Vary the angle inside the new niche, or you compete with yourself and with everyone else saying the same thing.

"i don't know my niche"

Then you're in the most common position on the platform. Three questions that get people out of it:

  • what do people already DM you about?
  • what could you talk about for an hour with no notes?
  • what have you paid money to learn?

Where those overlap is the niche you can sustain for 14 days. Pick that. You can widen later.

overlap, don't erase

Your audience doesn't leave when you add a lane. They watch you add it. The old posts stay up, the old articles stay in your history, and they become your credibility for the new thing instead of a contradiction of it.

The move that works is the same at every scale: build the new lane alongside the old one, serve people who value it, get real demand, then shift your weight. Overlap for a window. Don't jump blindly and don't burn the record.
